Tooth Extraction Aftercare Instructions
Having a tooth removed involves delicate oral tissue healing. Dr. Giridhar Govardan and our clinical team provide step-by-step instructions to ensure your recovery is fast, comfortable, and free from complications.
First 24 Hours: Protect the Clot
Avoid vigorous rinsing, spitting, or touching the socket with fingers or tongue. Strictly avoid smoking or alcohol for at least 48 hours, as suction and chemicals dislodge the protective blood clot, leading to a painful dry socket.
After 24 Hours: Warm Salt Rinses
After the initial 24 hours have elapsed, gently bathe the mouth with a cup of warm water mixed with half a teaspoon of table salt, especially after meals. Let the water roll out gently into the sink without harsh swishing.
Diet & Pain Management
Consume cool, soft foods (yoghurts, soups, eggs, pasta) on the opposite side of your mouth. Never drink through a straw. Take standard pain relief (paracetamol or ibuprofen) as advised by your dentist before anaesthetic wears off.
